메탈리카(Metallica)는 미국 로스앤젤레스에서 독일에서 미국으로 이민한 드러머 라스 울리히(Lars Ulrich)를 주축으로 1981년 결성된 스래시 메탈, 헤비 메탈 밴드이다. 전 세계 최정상에 있으며 전 세계적으로 유명한 헤비메탈 락 밴드이며 슬레이어, 앤스랙스와 더불어 스래시 메탈계의 4대 거장에 손꼽히고 있으며 가장 대중적으로 성공한 밴드로 평가받고 있다. 현재까지 정규앨범 9장과 더불어 미국 그래미 어워드를 8번 수상했고, 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 헌액되었으며,약 1억 3천만장 이상의 음반판매고를 기록한 밴드이다. 2003년에는 'MTV Icon'에 선정되어 출연하였으며, 우리나라 내한공연도 3번 했다.
