뉴올리언스에 집이 한 채 있어요.
사람들은 해 뜨는 집이라 불렀어요.
그 집은 수 많은 불쌍한 소년들이
파멸하게 된 곳이었어요.
하느님 나도 그 소년들중 한 사람인걸 알아요.

 

나의 어머니는 재단사였고,
내게 새 청바지를 만들어 주셨어요.
뉴올리언스에서 나의 아버지는
도박꾼이었어요.

 

지금 아버지에게 필요한 것은
단지 슛케이스와 트렁크 뿐.
그리고 그가 유일하게 만족했었던 때는
술에 만취했을 때이었어요

 오..어머니 당신의 자식들에게 말해주세요.
해뜨는 집에서 죄를 저지르며
비참하게 살아왔던 나와 같은 삶을 살지 말라고.

 

한쪽 발은 플랫폼에 다른 한쪽 발은 기차에 딛고서.
그 속박과 굴레의 뉴올리언스로 돌아가고 있어요.

My mother was a tailores
sewed my new blue jeans.
My father was a gamblin' man
down in New Orleans.

Now the only thing a gambler needs
is a suitcase and a trunk.
And the only time he'll be satisfied
is when he's down and drunk.
