제니스 조플린(Janis Joplin )는 1960년대 최고의 블루스 싱어로 그 명성을 구가하며 전설적인 존재로 남아있지만, 과도한 헤로인 복용으로 27세의 젊은 나이에 세상을 떠나 팝계에 안타까움을 남긴 스타이기도 하다. 영혼을 찢어 놓을 듯한 목소리, 술과 마약, 그리고 노래 블루스 라커의 대명사이던 제니스 조플린이 많은 사람들의 가슴에 가장 솔직한 노래를 남기고 그들의 사랑을 받으면서도 그러나, 제니스는 고독했다. 존재의 가장 근원적인 부분에서부터 고독감을 느끼던 제니스는 20대초반부터 그녀를 사로잡고 놓아주지 않았던 술과 마약과 결별하지 못했다. 제니스가 유명세를 타면 탈수록 그녀의 주변에서 멀어져 가는 인간관계속에서 그녀는 고통스러워 했다.  제니스의 죽음 후 그녀는 락의 전설이 되었다. 그것은 그녀가 남성 중심의 락 세계에서 몇 안되는 여성 라커였기 때문이기도 하였고, 그녀가 삶 속에서 길러낸 노래의 깊이 때문이기도 했다. 제니스 이후 모든 여성 라커의 모범은 제니스가 되었다.
