조 카커(Joe Cocker)는 1944년 영국 출생. 1960년대부터 인기를 얻었던 블루 아이드 소울 가수였다. 특유의 거친 음색으로 다른 가수들의 노래를 불러 인기를 얻어 데뷔 당시 비틀즈의 히트곡을 리메이크한 'With A Little Help From My Friends'를 1968년 UK 차트 1위에 랭크시키며 개성적인 목소리의 새로운 Rock & Soul 아티스트의 탄생을 알렸다. 이후 30여년간의 활동 기간동안 1975년 빌보드 차트 Top 10 발라드 'You Are So Beautiful' 같은 히트 싱글과 1982년 빌보드 차트 정상을 차지한 제니퍼 원스와의 듀엣곡 'Up Where We Belong' (영화 사관과 신사의 주제곡), 'Unchain My Heart', 'Summer In The City' 등을 통해 1983년 그래미상을 받았다. 2007년에는 대영제국 4등훈장을 받았다. 아직까지도 많은 팝 팬들의 사랑을 받았으나 2014년 12월 폐암으로 사망했다.
