탐 웨이츠(Tom Waits)는 1949년 미국 출생으로 가수, 영화배우이며 1973년 1집 앨범 'Closing Time'로 데뷔했다. 여기에는 후에 이글스가 커버하게 되는 곡 ''Oi ''55''가 실려 있었다. 술취한 부랑자 같은 목소리와 저소득 계층을 캐릭터를 노래의 주인공으로 삼는 그의 특징은 연이은 앨범들에서 공통적으로 나타났고 평단의 찬사는 물론 컬트 팬 층을 구축했다. 70년대 말에 이르러서는 뮤지션으로뿐만 아니라 영화배우와 영화음악 작곡가로서도 활동을 시작했다. 그는 코폴라의 영화들인 '럼블 피시(Rumble Fish)와 '아웃사이더(Outsiders)'에 출연하기도 했다.  'Best Alternative Music Album' 부문을 수상한다. 그리고 지난 2001년 73-80년 Elektra 레이블에서 발표한 대표곡 모음집으로 팝, 록 팬들과 재즈팬들에게도 사랑받는 'Blue Valentines', ''Eaggs & Sausage'  발매했다.
